Today’s Real Crisis
Historians are famous for saying “those that fail to learn from the past are doomed to
repeat it”. And they are correct. If you are a half-empty sort, you will
look at the headlines of the weekend and predict gloom. If it’s not
global warming leading to an abnormal winter, then it’s the situation in
Ukraine which will lead to another Cold War and detente.
If you’re a half-full optimist, you will brush these off as the latest in a long
series of main stream media plots, by selling advertising and keeping
everyone glued to your preference of continuous information. Half-full
people believe in our nation’s ability to do anything we set our minds
to.
If you’re at the top of the power chain, you’re nervous. Because at some point, a
logical layman with the respect of the masses will step up to the plate
and announce “Wake up America. You are financially up-side down, the
people in power know it and there is little that can be done.”
What’s different today than in the past? The difference is that whether you are
half empty or full, whether you’re a Republican or Democrat or
regardless of any other ‘side’ that you’ve taken on the issues being
sold to the public, there is one overriding factor that no one seems to
acknowledge. We are nearing the point where we will no longer be able to
fund what we’ve promised.
Substantial cuts to our military, entitlements and whatever else are drops in the
bucket. Is it any wonder, even the long-term politicians are retiring?
Our unfunded prescriptions, social security and medicare is approaching
$130 trillion dollars. How does America pay for this when we need to
borrow every year just to stay above water?
The smart people are already prepared. What is needed is that logical layman. Any
takers Warren?
